Using AI For Job Applications

60% of candidates feel that the increased use of AI makes it harder to stand out.

This survey by CharityJob reveals a growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in job applications, risking employers hiring candidates who cannot do the work. It also reveals that while many candidates are familiar with AI, their views on its use in recruitment are mixed.

The findings indicate that over half of the respondents have never used AI to help with job applications. However, a significant portion (26%) expressed that they are likely to use AI for future applications. Those who have used AI have primarily done so for creating cover letters (41%) and for interview preparation (25%). Other uses included checking spelling and grammar and summarizing text.

While half of the respondents agreed that it's fair to use AI for job applications, there are concerns about AI being subject to biases.

A majority (77%) indicated they would prefer a recruiter to check their application rather than it be assessed by AI, highlighting a preference for human judgment in the evaluation process.

Additionally, 60% felt that the increased use of AI by other candidates makes it harder to stand out, while 43% believe that using AI increases their chances of success. Despite these concerns, a large majority (79%) expressed interest in developing their AI skills.
