Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students will:

  1. Identify and name common materials (wood, metal, plastic, glass, fabric, rubber, paper).
  2. Understand basic properties of materials (e.g., hard, soft, shiny, dull, flexible, rigid).
  3. Explore how materials are chosen for specific uses based on their properties.

Materials Needed

  1. Treasure Box: A collection of objects made from various materials (e.g., wooden blocks, glass jars, rubber bands, plastic bottles).
  2. Magnifying Glasses for close examination.
  3. Property Cards: Visual aids showing terms like "hard," "soft," "bendy," "shiny," "dull."
  4. Large labeled hoops or sorting trays.
  5. Experiment props: Elastic bands, marbles, wooden blocks, metal spoons, paper, and fabric samples.
  6. Worksheets: "Match the Material to Its Property" and "Draw an Object and Its Material."
  7. Optional: Interactive whiteboard or chart paper for whole-class activities.
