Nigel Canin is well known in the world of software as the man who created 2Simple, a company specialising in primary software and the digital platform Purple Mash. In 2023 he was honoured with the Bett Outstanding Achievement Award. What is not so well known is that he is one of the founders of 2econd Chance, a not-for-profit computer recycling company.
He met Adam Goodman and together they set up a training scheme to help adults and young people aged 15-25 who had an Education, Health and Care Plan and were computer enthusiasts. It has proved to be an innovative solution to reducing e-waste while at the same time supporting the most vulnerable in the community.
As an organisation, 2econd Chance has three overarching aims:
- Reduce the amount of e-waste going to landfill;
- Bridge the digital divide;
- Provide a pathway into employment for the most vulnerable.
Founded in 2019, our priorities for the first 12 months were twofold: firstly to connect with organisations about computer donations and secondly to foster links with specialist organisations to refer clients.
