Exams – And Their Results – Are All About Trust

How far can students trust that their exam results are a true reflection of their ability? Dennis Sherwood offers his thoughts.

As school exams draw ever closer, here’s a statement referring to GCSE, AS and A level grades:

Students can look forward to exam results they can trust.

What do you infer?

You could well be thinking, ‘What a silly question! What is there to ‘infer’? It’s obvious! Just plain English!’

Yes, plain English indeed; from which you are probably inferring that this statement is highly reassuring, endorsing the integrity of the exam system and the reliability and trustworthiness of the results – results expressed, for school exams, as grades.
