I have always believed technology has the potential to positively transform the way we do things in all aspects of our daily life. As a teacher, this has meant I’ve always been enthusiastic about the ways in which we can incorporate technology into the classroom to improve the experiences of both students and teachers alike.
I’ve welcomed the growth of the Education Technology (EdTech) market over the last decade. Spurred by the necessity of remote education during the pandemic, it has proven my belief that it can be transformative in the classroom.
While I appreciate not all teachers may be as personally invested in the idea of EdTech as I am, I attribute this to a need to demonstrate the tangible benefits of the technology for classroom processes. I have seen first-hand how it can improve and drastically increase students’ engagement by making learning more fun and interactive. It’s this experience of witnessing the impact of the ‘digital revolution’ in the classroom that I want to share here.
Improving engagement
One of the most obvious evidence points for the benefits of EdTech is the wide-ranging possibilities these platforms can offer to increase student engagement and get them excited about the lesson and subject. From platform-specific functions to easily accessible multimedia resources, EdTech opens up new ways for students to learn, enhancing and building upon existing curriculum plans.
