Early and Multiple Entry to GCSE Mathematics

This report by the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) concludes that the increasing trend towards early entrance into GCSE mathematics has a negative effect on almost all students’ mathematical education and recommends that the Government must review the current entitlement to ensure that all students are required to participate in mathematics up to the end of Key Stage 4. In 2010, almost 11% of those sitting GCSE mathematics were aged 15 or younger, compared to less than 5% in 2008. Leadership Briefing 5.12 (60)
