Complying with Exclusion Regulations

The exclusion of children from schools has been a prominent issue in recent months due, in part, to a report by the Children’s Commissioner for England, Dr Maggie Atkinson. Produced in April 2013, the report, titled ‘Always Someone Else’s Problem’, follows a previous paper published last year, ‘They Never Give Up On You’, and examines occurrences of illegal exclusions and the best ways to tackle them. Perry Hill, partner in the education sector group at business law firm DWF, examines Dr Atkinson’s findings, recent changes to the law and how schools can comply with all relevant policies.
