The heart is the body’s pumping system, pushing blood all around the body. Yet the heart is surprisingly small, the average adult heart being about the size of a clenched fist and weighing about 310 grams (11 ounces). And then there are the lungs, the kidneys, the liver and the skeleton, to name but a few of the body’s vital components, each playing a specific and fundamental role that enables us to survive on a daily basis.
