Inspections Of Early Years Provision From September 2008

This consultation outlines Ofsted’s our proposals for inspections of early years provision from September 2008 in response to changes introduced by the Childcare Act 2006. It also seeks views on a number of aspects specifically relating to the inspections of early years settings. OfSTED will publish a summary of the key outcomes of the consultation during spring 2008. Progress in International Reading Literacy Study

This report was published by NFER on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families and compares the reading attainment and attitudes to reading of over 200,000 9 and 10 year-old children in 41 countries. The survey collects information not just on reading attainment, but also about children’s reading attitudes and habits, and whether and what they read for pleasure. A new study by leading centre-right thinktank Policy Exchange has found that parents often do not have meaningful options about where to send their children to be educated. It also found increasing disenchantment with the academies programme amongst sponsors and clear evidence that local authorities are continuing to ignore the demands of parents in their determination to keep control of school provision. It is aimed at anyone who works with children and young people in schools and other education settings and gives advice on incorporating alcohol education into the national science and personal, social and health education (PSHE) curricula, as well as helping children and young people get the right support.
