Enjoyment of reading

The National Literacy Trust undertook their first annual survey into young people’s reading in late 2010. Some 18,141 young people aged 8 to 17 participated in the survey which focused on their attitudes towards reading, writing, communication skills as well as technology use. This latest publication from the study explored perceptions of how much young people enjoy reading, how good they think they are as readers, how often they read and how long for, what types of materials they read outside of class, how many books they read and how many books they have in the home, and how they feel about reading.

The distribution of Child Poverty in England – latest Government research report

The DFE Child Poverty Unit has conducted a study into the distribution of child poverty in England using its Local child Poverty Measure. This has been done to support the Department’s Child Poverty Strategy. The study analysed local level child poverty data to explore the distribution of child poverty in England and to find out how child poverty rates in areas of disadvantage have changed over time. The (revised) local child poverty measure was defined as ‘the proportion of children living in families in receipt of out of work benefits or tax credits where their reported income is less than 60 percent median income’.
