Elevations & Sections
Elevations are probably the most misunderstood of architects drawings as they are often seen by clients as an accurate representation of the finished building whereas they are really only a coded diagram of what will be provided.
Importance of much misunderstood drawings
It is also true to say that many clients do not understand the need or relevance of sections even though plans are virtually useless without a section to give the third dimension, height, to the proposals.
These two sets of drawings are vital, however, to the full understanding of how the building will work and clients need to examine them closely, reading them in conjunction with the floor plans to get the full picture.
Hopefully this article will help clients and building users understand and interpret the information on the architects elevations and sections and take a full part in influencing the design of his or her new school.
