The 14-19 Shake-Up

From April 2010 local authorities will take over funding responsibility for education and training for all 14–19 year olds. Under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill, which sets out this change, local authorities will have new powers to plan and commission education and training for this age group. This new report by the LSN warns that Government plans for all teenagers to remain in school or college to the age of 18 could be jeopardised unless local authorities are careful with new powers to commission post-16 education and training.
